I'm AJ, and I've been a plumber for 18 years. I started Centerset Plumbing in 2019 because after almost two decades watching how the industry actually operates — the upsells, the bait pricing, the "while I'm here" routine — I wanted to build something different. So I did.
Why I started Centerset
The big plumbing companies don't run things the way I think they should be run. Customers get bait pricing on a $99 main line snake, then a $1,200 hydrojet pitch they didn't ask for. They get pushed into a full repipe when a section fix would do. They get sold expensive water treatment systems by someone who isn't even a plumber.
I didn't want to be part of that. So I built Centerset as the opposite — small, family-owned, no upselling, honest pricing. The same guy who answers the phone is the one who shows up at your door.
What it means to be a family business
Centerset is a family business on purpose, not by accident. Sundays are for my family. Saturdays are short so I'm home in the afternoon. I close at 7 on weekdays so I can have dinner with my wife and kids. I'm not trying to squeeze in 10 jobs a day — I'm trying to do the job in front of me right, then go home.
What that means for you as a customer:
I'm not rushed. I do the job once, correctly.
I'm not burnt out. I show up sharp.
I'm not cutting corners to get to the next house.
My word is my bond
If I quote you a number, that's the number. If something unexpected comes up once a wall is open, we stop and show you before adding a dime. If a section fix will solve your problem, that's what I'll quote — not a whole-house repipe. If your water heater has five more years in it, I'll tell you that, even though I lose the install.
I'd rather earn your repeat business for 20 years than your whole wallet once.
